One of my favourite places in Australia was Brisbane. Located on the East Coast of Australia in the state of Queensland, Brisbane is a funky place with lots to do and see. If you are heading to Brisbane or Brissy as the locals call it, here are a few suggestions for attractions, restaurants, and shops.
1. South Bank
Located on the south bank of the Brisbane River, South Bank was probably my favourite place in the city. It is home to so many interesting sites including a swimming pool, ferries wheel, restaurants, and gardens. Brisbane, along with the whole of Australia, is known for it’s creative and delicious food. With everything from homemade ice cream sandwiches to Asian fusions or traditional Mexican, there is a place for even the pickiest eater.
2. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
You can read about visiting Lone Pine’s Koala Sanctuary on my blog here.
3. Mount Coot-tha
With the highest peak in Brisbane, Mount Coot-tha is a perfect place to capture that panoramic shot of the city and surrounding areas. You can either do the walk up to the top by trail or take a bus if you are not up to a walk. There is also a cafe on top if you want to grab an iced coffee and take in the views.
4. The Museum of Brisbane
The museum is in the city centre of Brisbane; here you can learn more about the history of the town through different exhibits.
5. Brisbane’s City Hall
A beautiful example of architecture this city hall is a great place to walk around and admire the outside or sit outside on the lawn to eat your lunch.
6. Kangaroo Point Cliffs
Located along the Brisbane River, the cliff’s at Kangaroo Point are a place to sit and relax, or you could bring a picnic and enjoy the quiet. If you are feeling adventurous, book a rock climbing session at the tourism offices located throughout the city.
7. Make Time For a Day Trip
Brisbane is also the gateway to many beautiful places such as the Gold Coast (an hour or two south of the city) or Fraser Island (North of the city). Be sure to visit the tourist information centre to get more information regarding day trips or longer tours to these areas.
8. Eat Street Market
All the food you can imagine. You can learn more about it here.
9. Queen Street Mall
Great place to hit up the shops and grab some new outfits!
As always I hope you have enjoyed my post and if you are from Brisbane, I’d love to hear more about what you would recommend doing in the city.
